On 15 March, the students of MSJ made their way to the Newport Athletics Track, ready for a day full of competition, house pride and school spirit!
While students in Years 7-11 were dressed in their sports uniform along with coloured zinc and scrunchies to support their house, the Year 12 students were again invited to dress up to celebrate their final year.
There were many incredible costumes, but it was ‘The Runaway Brides’ who ended up winning the costume competition - a unique choice that many teachers had not seen before!
House spirits were high as students cheered for their house from the sidelines, however it was Cameron who yet again were the house spirit winners as they formed another notorious flash mob to ACDC’s “Thunderstruck”.
Throughout the day, students competed in a number of field and track events such as javelin, shot put, discus, as well as the many short and long-distance running events. Novelty events such as tug of war and the egg and spoon races also took place during the day as a way for students to earn points for their house!
To finish off the day, the student vs. teachers race and the house vs. house relay took place, which everyone watched from the sidelines. It was amazing to see everyone cheering for their houses; a truly successful and lively event!
A massive congratulations to the individual year level winners as well as McCormack who took the crown with a total of 855 points - an impressive feat!
And a huge thank you to all of the staff, volunteers and student helpers who made this day possible!

WOW McCORMACK,
We are so incredibly proud of every single student who participated in Athletics Day and showed the other houses how amazing our house spirit is and that we can turn out on top. Even through hard times, McCormack can come together as a house and have compassion for each other, as per our house motto, “On Wings Of Compassion.”
As house leaders, we would like to thank all of McCormack for their constant perseverance and commitment, after our tight second place in the swimming carnival, and now coming out on top at Athletics Day. We thank you all for your ongoing support.
It was awesome to see everyone dressed up in their house polo, with green accessories, especially the Year 12s with all of their creative costumes! Thank you for always cooperating with us and being part of our house!
BRING ON MMADD DAY, THE HOUSE CUP IS OURS!!
