Lacrosse

On Friday 30 August, instead of enjoying a sleep in on a study at home day, a group of Year 9 & 10 students represented MSJ at School Sport Victoria Lacrosse State championships (pictured above). In a hotly contested competition, MSJ came away as state champions! Such a fantastic achievement for all the coaches and students involved.

Soccer

It was a cold, lonely, stormy morning and the soccer girls from MSJ all woke up at sunrise to get on the bus. It was a long, nerve racking bus drive but then we finally arrived at the Darebin soccer fields. We were in Division 1, the pressure was on. The first tiring game we won 3 - nil! Then we had one game rest but then got straight back onto the second game. We drew, which was pretty good because we were still undefeated. Then we tied and won some more games. Last game before finals, we needed to win this, AND WE WON!!! Mr McCartney told us that we were in finals and we were all so happy, but the job wasn't done yet, we still had a game to play. We were playing Santa Maria and we had previously lost to them so we were very nervous. It was a long tiring game and we matched the competition, yet they scored some lucky goals and sadly we didn't, though we still played a great game and we were happy with our performance. Even though we lost, we still came 2nd place in the whole competition. Well done, MSJ!! Thank you to Mr McCartney for being our coach.

The Intermediate and Senior teams also made it to the grand final but were very unlucky and did not win. So all three teams finished runner up for the day.

Netball

At the CGSAV netball competition, MSJ had a strong showing with two senior teams, two intermediate teams, and three junior teams. Several of these teams made it to the grand final, which was awesome to see. However, our intermediate B team was our only MSJ team to win their grand final. Huge shoutout to Chloe Sutton from our Intermediate B team, who was named MVP for her amazing performance throughout the tournament. It was an epic win for MSJ!

Brooke Meek, Year 9

We arrived extra early as usual for the netball competition with excitement and nerves as there were two senior teams, two intermediate teams and three junior teams. As the bus was crowded, we were assigned our times and teams. Seeing all the different age groups and schools at our arrival made the whole experience more thrilling. As I was a part of the intermediate B team, I could most definitely say our team was very strong. Each game was another new adventure. Some games were very close, others were great wins. I am very proud of our team as we won every single game and continued those wins by collecting the finals win, which also meant a player in our team got the MVP for the finals, that I am happy to say that I achieved. I would like to take the time to thank the umpires who took their time out of their day to umpire our games. I would also like to thank the coordinators of the day for all the organisation and preparation. And last but not least, a great thanks to MSJ, Mr McCartney and all the volunteer coaches. It was a very exciting day and I hope we can do it again next year.
