On 7, 8 and 9 September 2022, the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh and Outdoor Ed students embarked on a hike across Anglesea from Bell's Beach to Point Roadknight. Students were tasked with the challenge of carrying back packs up steep hills, cooking on Trangia's and sleeping in tents.
Overall, the experience was challenging but fun. Initially, the hike was attainable but soon we discovered how hard it was to climb a hill with all of your gear on your back whilst walking long distances for extended periods of time. Many students were extremely tired by the time we reached Bell's Beach and had to heavily rely on resilience and the support of others to get through. Though the walk had its hardships, it allowed the entire group to learn more about each other and support everyone. By the time we reached camp for the night, everyone was able to talk to one another about their experiences and thoughts. The main highlights of the camp were the beautiful views we enjoyed during the hike and the conversations we all had on the walk, as well as eating dinner by the campfire and roasting marshmallows. Overall, the camp was an experience we will never forget, we learnt valuable skills such as resilience, persistence, and teamwork whilst earning a feeling of belonging and capability.
