This year, staff at MSJ are continuing to focus on practices that enhance pedagogy allowing students to achieve their goals. The four main areas that staff will be developed on in the Teaching and Learning area for 2023 include:
Student Voice - Enhancing and maximising the opportunities for student voice in learning and leadership.
Visible Learning Strategies - Working with ‘Corwin’ to embed and fine tune visible learning strategies which include the areas of Learning Intentions, Success Criteria and Feedback.
Formative Assessment - Reviewing the process of formative assessment and how this form of feedback links to and informs summative assessment.
Coaching - Developing teaching staff so that they are able to contribute to their continual learning cycle and engage in and with research and best practice.

Carmel Leonard Award Recipients: Jade Azzopardi and Arunyah Kharbanda
This award is offered to an MSJ graduate who is entering into Commerce/Economics with the best ATAR score with the hope that Carmel’s story will inspire and assist her in her endeavours.
VCAL DUX - Lauren Agosta
Lauren completed her Senior VCAL certificate in 2022 and received outstanding nominations in all 4 strands of VCAL: Literacy, Numeracy, Personal Development Skills and Work related Skills. She completed her VET training in Sound Production at Williamstown High and attended several work placement opportunities within the industry.
Lauren was a Leader of the 2022 VCAL group. She brought great energy and enthusiasm to the class and participated with positivity.
Here at MSJ, we continue to focus upon creating opportunities for families to engage with their child’s learning environment. It is through this relationship that we believe a strong and consistent foundation can be created which enhances student outcomes and achievement.
So far this year, we have had a number of opportunities where families have been engaged with the school. Last week on Thursday, families were welcomed into the school for Student Led Conferences (Years 8-12) and Meet the Learning Mentor (Year 7). The conversations very much centred around the setting of goals and working towards the attainment of these through a Growth Mindset.
Earlier this year, Year 7 families had a parent information session which provided introductory information about the school, its processes and opportunities to engage in partnership.
CANVAS is another opportunity where families can engage with learning. The Learning Management System provides parents/carers with timely feedback of student achievement. It is a system where parents can access the learning programs for their child and promote at-home conversations around what students are learning within the classroom.
