As we come to the end of a long and very busy term, I would like to thank the students and staff for all the amazing work that they have done over the term. As always, much was achieved inside and outside the classroom. I encourage you to take the time to read the many articles in this edition of Synergy to get a real sense of what the students have been involved in.

On Thursday 22 August, we held our Variety Performing Arts night. This year, the theme was based around the celebration of our 60 Year Anniversary and was titled A Moment in Time. The students presented a magical performance highlighting the milestones of MSJ and the music and fashion of each decade since 1964. It was a fabulous performance, and I want to thank the students, Trudi Camilleri and the many staff who work with and supported the students over many weeks. Well done to everyone involved.

Our yearly Male Mentors Breakfast took place on Friday 6 September. As always, it was a fabulous event with over 350 people in attendance. Attendees heard from guest speakers Chris Lacey and Guy McCleish. Chris is a youth worker from the Les Twentyman Foundation. Les was a teacher at MSJ in the 1970s and this year marks the 50th anniversary of Les’ involvement in MSJ’s Guinness Book of Records netball marathon. Guy is a parent at the College and is a community sporting coach heavily involved in netball, breaking down gender stereotypes in netball, and promoting female involvement in community sport.

The process for appointing our Student Leadership Team for 2025 has been completed. I am pleased to announce that Bianca Anderson and Joanne Vivera have been appointed as the College Captains. My congratulations to Bianca and Joanne for their appointment. My congratulations also to all students who have been appointed to a leadership position. I am confident that they will all do a great job and I look forward to working with them to enhance what we do here at MSJ.

Hosted by our PRISM team, Wear it Purple Day was held on Tuesday 17 September and is a day aimed to create a safe and inclusive place for all members of our school community. Students got involved by wearing a purple accessory. By wearing purple, we demonstrate to everyone at MSJ that they are celebrated and respected. Students enjoyed a shared lunch, with music, face painting, and jewellery making.

I hope everyone is having an enjoyable term break and I look forward to a productive Term 4.
