We celebrated the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on Friday 16 June. This great feast is a symbol of both the divine and human love that Jesus has for his Father and for us. Sr Monica Cavanagh, Congregational Leader of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart, helps us through her annual reflection connect with St Mary of the Cross MacKillop’s personal devotion to the Sacred Heart, where she speaks of climbing into the abyss of God’s heart and finding inner peace. She heard Jesus' words: “Come to me all you who labour and are overburdened, and you will find rest. For I am gentle and humble of heart”. (Matthew 11:28). Everything Jesus said and did was from his humble heart and may we, like St Mary of the Cross, be inspired to live this way in our love and service to others.

On this feast day, we invited ten Class Captains from Years 7-9 to join local parishioners and Grade 3/4 students from St Mary’s Primary School for a morning mass at Mary, Help of Christians Parish, Altona. As always, Fr Michael Kalka made us feel most welcome and reflected on this feast by referring to the emoji for love which was a great way to engage the students in his homily. Following Mass, we invited the students to reflect on this feast through images and quotes.
“Ametur ubique terrarum Cor Jesu Sacratissimum"
(May the most Sacred Heart of Jesus be loved everywhere).
Inspired further by this great devotion, this year we decided to host our very own ‘Sacred Heart Week’ which incorporated several prayerful events and fundraising initiatives in support for Sacred Heart Mission. Sacred Heart Mission, who are in St Kilda, work with some of the most vulnerable people in our communities and a fine example of the Catholic Church in action. We were pleased to raise close to $800 from our College Op shop and raffles and sincerely thank our College community for banding together in their love and support of Sacred Heart Mission.
