Learning Team News

Mount St. Joseph Girls’ College prides itself as a school where all members of the community are lifelong learners. It is not just the students who are learning, setting goals and making improvements every day. Our teachers are focused on how they can continue to improve their teaching practice to best support their learners.

To facilitate this, our school has a dedicated team of leaders, the Learning Development Team, tasked with supporting every teacher in their professional growth.

As part of this work, all teachers have been working together to make better use of Success Criteria in their lessons. Success Criteria are a set of goals that both students and teachers can use to check their progress and better understand themselves as learners. Over the course of this semester, students will notice teachers using Success Criteria more frequently as a focus for each lesson.

Alongside developing the classroom practice of the teachers at our College, the Learning Development Leaders have been working with staff to analyse data in order to make improvements to our teaching practices at the school. Either at the end of 2020 or beginning of 2021, your child may have undertaken Progressive Achievement Testing (PAT) that has allowed us to identify areas of strength, and areas for classroom teachers to focus on further.

As a result of the PAT testing, the College has begun an intervention program targeting students in years 7 and 9 who would benefit from extra support after the disruptions of 2020. We plan to work with other year levels later in the year.

After a chaotic 2020, students and their teachers are very happy to be back in the classroom after working online for most of last year. Canvas courses are looking full and fresh as we update the resources and make improvements from what we have learned from our experiences over the last 12 months.

Do not forget parents and carers have access to their child's Canvas feedback at any time. Here, you can check out how your children are going and view the feedback provided by the teacher. If you have trouble accessing Canvas, please contact our IT Helpdesk so that we can get you back online.

Thank you for your ongoing support of your child's learning at the College. If you are interested in finding out more about how teachers are working toward continuous growth, please call the College to speak with any of the Learning Development Leaders
