NAPLAN Online

Last week, Year 7 and Year 9 students completed the online NAPLAN tests over the course of three days. This is the third year NAPLAN has conducted their testing online and we are happy to report that it went smoothly. Well done to our students for completing all tests and being present with required materials, and thank you to our IT Department, Administration Staff and Teaching Staff for assisting our students.

NAPLAN results will be emailed to parents later in the year, when made available by ACARA.

SEMESTER 1 EXAMINATIONS

Formal examinations provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate the depth of understanding of work covered over an extended period of time. It also provides students with first hand experience of formal examination procedures. The examination results, in conjunction with other assessment results, will provide students with significant feedback regarding areas of strength and areas of improvement.

The examination period for Year 11 students is Friday June 10 to Friday June 17.

Students will be given an examination timetable and the dates and times of each exam must be read carefully.

All students must attend their scheduled exams in their full school uniform. There are no scheduled classes for Year 11 students during these exams, so students are expected at school only for their timetabled exams.

The examination period for Year 10 students is Wednesday June 15 to Friday June 17.

Year 10 exams will cover the core subjects of English, Religious Education, Humanities, Mathematics and Science only. All students must attend their scheduled exams in their full school uniform. There are no scheduled classes for Year 10 students during these exams, so students are expected at school only for their timetabled exams.

The examination period for Year 9 students is Thursday June 16 and Friday June 17.

Year 9 exams will cover the core subjects of English and Science only.

The normal timetable continues where an exam is not scheduled. These arrangements will provide minimal disruption to the learning and teaching program and allows a more effective elective program.

Year 8 students will have Semester 2 exams in English and Maths and there are no exams for Year 7 students.

Preparing for Exams

Students should be in the habit of regularly revising the work that has been completed at school as part of their home study program. Once students have completed their set homework in the evening and if time permits, they should organise their notes, summarise key concepts and revise the semester’s work. A study timetable is recommended. We encourage your child to discuss this further with their subject teachers.

Subject Selection 2023

The process of subject selection is designed to equip students with the information to make decisions about the elective subjects that they select. The extensive process with Year 10 students will begin at the end of Term 2 with a dedicated Pathways Week to introduce students to the VCE Senior Secondary Certificate. Information will be sent to parents/carers and students.

Early Term 3, students in Years 8, 9 and 11 will be involved in the process of selecting their subjects for 2023. It is important that students be informed about the available subjects and that the selection of courses is suited to their interests and abilities. An integral part of the process is that parents discuss with their child the subject choices they wish to make for the following year. Information to students will be distributed at Year Level Assemblies. Students will be informed about the pathways selection process and how to complete the selection guides.

Subjects should be selected largely on the following basis and should be done in consultation with parents, teachers and Pathways Leader:

  • The student’s personal interests
  • Known ability and past success in a particular area of study
  • Prerequisite and recommended studies for entry into Higher Education courses (Tertiary and TAFE)
  • Career aspirations
